NYC and Match Day 2014

Hellos! Long time no see right? Well. I have been busy. Rebuttle for my paper is almost done and I have to say that things are going better then I imagined. I feel like I am doing well in life and in the lab. This scares me because sometimes I worry more when I am too happy. Weird right?

I recently got back from New York with Dave. He, his mother, and his younger brother had planned a trip to Europe a year ago and we were in new york because his youngest brother lives there. This was my third time to NYC and I liked it a lot more this time. I think it’s mainly because Dave was there and we didn’t do any touristy stuff. I got to meet up with some friends, visit Chinatown (finally!) and eat lots of yummy food.

When I got back, I was a little sad because Dave isn’t here and we really haven’t been apart more than a week but work has kept me busy and I celebrated my birthday with friends who flew in for Match. This was my second time going to Match Day and though it was such a happy occasion, it always serves to remind me how other people I know are moving forward while I’m taking the scenic route.  That said, I was very happy for all my friends.

Ballet Barre

So I have been working out more lately which has lifted my mood. I was going to classes at the school gym but they upped the prices so I decided to look elsewhere. Plus, I figured since I am living with my parent (and hence saving money), I can spring for a gym membership. Turns out, a friend does ballet barre and I tried it/loved it! It is a combination of ballet and Pilates and appeals to my secret desire to be a ballerina. Unfortunately, I am not as graceful or coordinated as the rest of the people in my class but it is a GREAT work out. Perhaps its a secret because I am a bit embarrassed about it but I danced at Capital Theater when I was little and that made me fall in love with dance. I love dance shows: aka Dance Moms, So You Think You Can Dance, etc. and I was part of USC's chinese dance team for a bit. Ellie 6 months

Dear Ellie Belly You are now almost 7 months old and have changed quite a bit. In the last 3 weeks, we sleep trained you. It has been great because you now fall asleep on your own. Sometimes, you still have a hard time staying asleep but that’s ok. We are just glad that your reflux has gotten better and you no longer need to be burped. You now love solids, still won’t take a bottle properly, and understand your environment more and more every day. You have a special “uh” sound for mom and you laugh so hard when Caila makes funny noises at you in the care. You are SO persistent and usually much more chill then Caila but like all kids, you have your moments. You are so tall and already filling out 12 month clothes!  We love you SO much and can’t wait to see what’s ahead with crawling and walking, and learning to talk! Mom

Dear Ellie 3 months

Dear Ellie Belly,   Sorry it has taken me so long to write you your first letter. You came into this world 4 days early. I was trying to make it to my final midterm but you had other thoughts. Given how long your sister took to come out, I figured we has time but your birth was fast and furious. I went into labor around 6pm the night of 2/24/20 and barely made it to the hospital in time for an epidural at 8:30pm. I pushed you out in 4 pushes and you beat your sister in weight by 1 oz.   Since coming home, you have been a great baby. We didn’t have the breastfeeding issues or the weight issues I had with your sister since I knew what I was doing this time. You did have a bit of jaundice and we suffered through the bili blanket for a few days but thankfully that has all resolved.   Around 1 month, we were having a really hard time burping you after feeds, You would cry and cry and your dad and I had to take turns holding you at night.
